The Challenges of Being a Rural-based Non-profit

As with many non-profits, securing sufficient funding to cover operating expenses is a never-ending challenge.  This seems to be especially true for organizations based in rural  areas such as ours.  (A challenge further exacerbated by the scarcity of large local corporate and business sponsors.)  Although we serve an important segment of the community, not everyone realizes what it takes to sustain a well-run program.

Approximate Program Operating Expenses for (1) Year

Total operating costs can vary from year-to-year depending upon horse care needs, equipment requirements and other variable expenses.  Our current annual budget anticipates that approximately $120,000 will be needed to fund our program for 2017.  This includes all expenses associated with: the care and feeding of our 9 horses, our facility lease, providing lessons for 50+ riders each session, staffing, and other operating costs.  Approximately 20% of these expenses will be offset by rider revenue.  All other expenses will need to be covered by a combination of grants, donations and fund raising activities.

If you would like to help support a specific function

A small donation can make a BIG difference: $15 and up

$50-$100 can easily provide for the feed, hay and nutritional supplements that keep our  herd members healthy and happy.

$250 will sponsor a horse and all their needs for a month

$450 will give a child a scholarship to the program for 10  weeks, that otherwise couldn't afford to come

EQUESTRIAN LIFT FUNDRAISER

We are so proud of our volunteer Haley and her amazing project to help our center.

RideAbility is a PATH member center with a certified PATH instructor providing a therapeutic riding program and equine facilitated activities. Our goal is to be able to serve as many individuals that are wheelchair bound with safety and ease. After presenting to the Spinal cord Injury Center and the VA center we learned of the concerns of these potential riders.“How are you going to get me on the horse safely? How are you going to lift me? How am I getting off the horse without fear? How am I going to remain stable in the saddle?” After presenting and hearing their desires to ride, but fear standing in the way, we know that a lift system and adaptive saddles can take that fear away and allow us to begin the benefits of Therapeutic riding.

Our project will provide a wheelchair lift system and adaptable equipment to assist our riders safely onto the horse. It will give the opportunity for the wheelchair bound disabled individuals to improve their health with Facilitated Interaction with horses through therapeutic horseback riding.

1. Our goal is for our riders to feel a PART OF SOMETHING SPECIAL. Our riders will be part of a team and not isolation.
2. Our goal is for our riders with spinal cord injury, paralysis and amputations and others to feel safe and secure mounting the horse.
3. Our goal is that our volunteer teams will be better able to support and help get the rider’s mounted with less physical strain on their own bodies.
4. Our goals are for our riders will have increased confidence, self-esteem and feelings of success; which will lead to a feeling or joy rather than sadness and depression.

HOW GREAT IS THAT

THANKS TO EVERYONE THESE SMILES HAPPEN EVERYDAY
